THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH. Sometimes gothic comes in violent colors.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari from 1920. Changed cinema forever with it’s atmosphere and unique sets. All time classic for the ages!
“The Legend of Hell House”. There’s something about that movie that’s equally eerie and classy. I suppose it’s not a traditional Hammer- or Bava-style gothic atmosphere and setting (more modern), but it really creeps me out. Excellent cinematography and acting, and there is so much great dialog and sounds that I familiarized myself with long before I even saw the movie thanks to the dozen or so Skinny Puppy songs that sample it.
The Raven
The Church
Castle of Blood
Lisa And The Devil
Werner Herzog’s Nosferatu. Herzog’s documentary style regarding the landscapes and architecture really add to atmosphere.

Mario Bavas BLACK SUNDAY
Horror Of Dracula (1958)
